At the moment I am eating about 900 cals a day. Even that seems a lot to me as I have go this up from about 600 because I know it's messing up my metabolism. Anyway, the thing is I want to be able to eat a normal amount and lose weight the normal way, but I am so scared of putting on weight and I still need to lose more and when I eat more than this I feel sick and horrible. I am 5' 10 and about 152lbs and female (as you can probably guess by the name) Sorry if this post sounds really stupid. Thanks for any replies.

HEY PINK,

DON'T EVER THINK THAT A POST MAY SOUND STUPID.  WE ARE ALL IN THE SAME BOAT HERE.  I KNOW THAT I AM FOR SURE.  I GET REALLY WORRIED ABOUT WHAT I EAT, THEN THAT CAUSES ME TO THROW UP, WHICH CAUSES ME TO BE WORRIED, WHICH CAUSES ME TO THROW UP. . . YOU GET IT :?

I HAD TO START EATING MORE TOO, AND I KNOW HOW SCARY THAT CAN SEEM.  IT MAKES ME FEEL BETTER TO KEEP A CALORIE/FOOD NOTEBOOK JOURNAL.  THAT WAY I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I HAVE EATEN, AND I AM LESS LIKELY TO CHEAT.  ALSO IT HELPS ME TO FEEL LESS GUILTY IF I WALK OR BIKE OR EXERCISE SOME WAY.

YOU WILL BE IN MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.  LET ME KNOW IF I CAN HELP YOU IN ANY WAY.

YOUR FRIEND,

REDQUEEN:heart:

One thing you may want to try is when you are upping the calories dont look at the scale for a week or two......Your body will go through some changes, some of which are obsorbing some water and nutrients that it has been depleated of for so long.

Looking at the scale you might see a 2-3 pound gain, but that isnt fat. There would be no way you could gain 2-3 pounds of fat in that time based on your intake, that would be over 10,500 calories in excess.

If that happens you will want to automatically cut your calories back.

Take a leap, and look and read what everyone else has said, it works.....its scientific and its been proven that sometimes you need to eat more to lose. Most of us if not all have been though this, and are going through this, we wouldnt steer you in the wrong diection.

Your BMI puts you as normal but I also wanted to lose fat when I was that BMI, so I can relate. The RMR calculator on this site suggests it should be around 1500 or more (and that is without any kind of activity). Certainly pushing your slowed metabolism so that you are once more able to eat 1500 calories and keep losing is worthwhile, as you'll be able to get more nutrients into your body this way. I'm crossing my fingers for you and hoping you go for it. Incidentally, have you asked your GP/nurse for advice?

Thank you all for your replies and I know what this whole site says makes sense, it's just really hard to train my brain to think differently after years of thinking like this. I try and eat more but once I've eaten feel so bad and like you said redqueen, it causes that cycle of worrying and being sick, which I KNOW isn't good. I did go to my GP once when I was 16-17 as my eating started to get worse. The Dr just made me feel really pathetic as if I was wasting her time. Then she weighed me, which was horrible in itself and said, yes I did need to lose some weight (I was at the top end of normal weight at the time). What a nice helpful woman she was!!

Coopr, you make a lot of sense as well, I just need to get my head around eating a dfferent way and to be healthy rather than thin. It just stresses me out just thinking about it though. grr

It was difficult for me to eat more...and even now if I need to increase intake because my BFI changed its a tough thing to do. But every time the same thing happens, after I make the change, I am happy I did and the weightless starts up faster.

I understand how hard it is to do. Sometimes it does take alot of effort going against something that you have taught your body to do over the years.

A side note, it sounds like your really working at it, I think just by being here shows that deep down you know what to do, and hopefully some assurance from the rest of us will help you down the road to success.

Similar to what redqueen has said I find comfort in knowing exactly what I eat everyday, that way I am still in control of my intake and I am sure there is nothing else that I am forgetting to calculate. Although I don't have a journal I eat the exact same thing every day.........to most this probably isn't the best but my personality drives this behavior and I operate better when certain daily tasks are structured.

Look at my posts as of about 1.5 months ago, I was asking the same question with the same fear.
