Hello all, I'm new to the forums and I need some help to get back on track. I am 20 years old male and weigh around 225. I use to be around 185 then I plumped up to about 260. My goal is to lose more weight and get about back to my 185 so I can get into the air force. I started in I guess around Feb. and I lost 30lbs pretty quickly and seen a big difference. But the last few months I let up and i've been back at it for awhile but can't seem to lose anything. I've always been into working out, lifting and some cardio, I like to go workout atleast four days a week if not more. I do my normal weight lifting then I do about 45 mins of cardio on the elliptical every day I go. What I believe I need help on is my diet, which that is the key of weight loss. I'm not sure if I am eating to much or not eating enough..I'll give you an idea what I have been eating. Morning-quaker oats, or maybe a slimfast sometimes with a boiled egg. I normally work out around 10 and when I get back for lunch I'll have protein shake, one scoop with half water half milk, and say a tuna fish sandwich,or a slimfast ( sometimes I interchange). I eat dinner around 6, It varries tonight I had some home made soup, last night beans. Sometimes I might eat a little something before bed like a banana or some peanut butter. So I'm doing this and I'm not losing weight, so where am I going wrong? Advice would really be nice.

Hello, you sound just like me. I hit a plateau a couple weeks ago that lasted for 21 days without a single pound lost. But I stuck with the workouts and the eating right. Little did I know that my weight was trying to regulate, but I was losing inches and fat %. Read my Diary page "Dereks Journey back in Time..." It describes in detail everything I have to help you with the subject.

I've noticed you don't mention how many calories you're eating. I'm guessing this is because you don't know, as a result of not counting calories. It was great to lose weight without calories when it worked for you but if those days are over it might be time to start counting

I would suggest you start keeping a record of what you are eating every day and the calorie counts.  It can be a pain to keep track of every bite but if you do it honestly than you will really see what and how much you're eating every day. This could shed light on why you're not losing.  You could be eating too many calories or not enough, both of which can stall weight loss efforts.

I was just on my way back from the bathroom and I stubbed my toe.  I wanted to yell but there's nobody around to hear it, so it probably wouldn't have made a sound anyway.

Yes you all are right I do need to count calories, I've never really done that. I have mainly just eaten whatever looked to be healthy and it went well for awhile. I'm really starting to think that I haven't been eating enough. Back a few months ago when I lost my weight I don't really remember going on any certain diet, just working out and running, and not pigging out on junk food and it seemed to work. But I doubt that is the case for me now. Like I said I would like to lose about 30 more pounds, But what is really important for me is to keep my muscle mass that I have worked so long for, and It will help me later on. For example, I like eating just three times, it just works best for me. So say if I ate three times a day would I need to eat 600calories at each meal for a total of 1800 per day? To me 600 cals. seems like alot just at one meal and my metabolism has always been slow, so I would probably have a full feeling all day..would that be a bad thing?

I would keep your 3 meals at about 400 calories each, and simply add two protein shakes to your daily routine; before and after your workouts. So basically your turning your 'eating 3 times a day' into 5 meals as far as your body is concerned. Metabolism goes up, and muscles get fed. Win-win.

That sounds like a good plan to me, I'll try that out and see how that goes. I need to tweak my diet now. I'm pretty sure I wasn't eating enough, thinking about it and adding it up I was probably eating about 300 cals. a meal plus a few here and there, so that sounds like my problem.

Another thing you want to do is make most of your cardio jogging outside.  Jogging outside really burns the fat off of you.
