Hello everyone! :)

I'm Debbie. I'm 24 years old.. and I just joined this site, like 5 minutes ago.. so I thought I would go ahead and intruduce myself.

I've been struggling with my weight, for the past 2 1/2 to 3 years, basically ever since I had my son, who is now 3 years old. Before I had him, my highest weight was in the 160's.. and then over the past couple years, my weight got up to 233! That was my all-time highest.

My weight problem never really "hit me" so to say, until one day, quite a while back.. I was doing some shopping in the local Wal-Mart, and wanted to get some clothes. But I was so embarrassed to see just how hard it was to find clothes in my size (20/22). I was humiliated, just knowing that I couldn't go to the store, and buy a cute outfit.. and I sure didn't want anyone else shopping with me. That only made it worse. That was the day I decided that I had to do something about this, and get my weight under control.. not just for physical reasons, but for health as well.

I've had an issue with being addicted to diet pills, and have taken almost everything you can buy in the store.. all with short-term results, that was quickly gained back, as soon as I got off the pills. I only very recently stopped taking them for good. They were taking a real toll on my body, mind, and spirit. They made weight loss tougher for me.. and definately more devastating every time the weight would come back. I've been off of the pills for a little while now.. about a couple weeks or so.. which is actually a huge thing for me. I won't lie, I've been tempted many times, to go and get another bottle.. but common sense stops me. Thank the Lord for that!

So, now I am finally ready to lose this weight the "right" way.. regardless of how long it takes. I know it means a lot of hard work ahead of me, and I am ready for it.

I eat pretty healthy (most of the time) and I do exercise five days a week. I have one of those recumbrent stationary bikes, and also an Ab machine.. that I use. I've only recently gotten back into exercising again, and am completely determined and devoted to sticking with it this time!

Since around July, I've lost about 20 lbs or so.. give or take a few. I'm only 5'4, and weigh 200 lbs, which is extremely overweight for me. I did some research, and the "healthy" weight for me would be from 108 (which I think is TOO thin) to 143. So, I'm going for the middle, of a goal weight of about 130. I'm hoping to get down to, or close to that weight, by the end of this year. I'm well aware that for the weight to be lost in a healthy way, i shouldn't lose more than 1 to 2 lbs a week. So, that's what I'm aiming for.

I could definately use the support of others who are going through the same thing right now.. as I'm sure we all can. I'm not looking for a "diet buddy" not in any way, more like just some people to talk to, as a motivation.. and hopefully meet some new friends along the way. :)

If anyone ever wants to e-mail/chat sometime.. all my info is in my profile. Feel free to check it out sometime!

Well, that's about all I have to say right now. I just wanted to say hello, and let you know where I am in this journey to a healthier me. I'm a very determined and motivated person, and I have full faith in me that I can do this! We all can!

Take care, and God bless!

Rather than go for a 'guesstimate' of your ideal weight, why not choose instead a confirmed healthy target like, say, 24% body fat.

Get a skinfold caliper and monitor your progress with that.   Whatever weight you end up with at 24% body fat, I bet you'll like the result in a mirror, plus:
  1. you know it's healthy
  2. you get great feedback while you're losing
Best of luck,

I'm new here too, but welcome.

It sounds like you are on track to do it right this time.  That's the same with me.  I just don't think I was ever committed before like I am now.

Good Luck!

Nevd,

Thanks so much for the tips! :) I was thinking that it would be a better idea as well, like you were saying, to not focus as much on the "number" but on body fat and everything. I'm workin on it!

Thanks for your support :)

Hi,
I'm also new to this site and having a little trouble posting. Also, is there a site that has fiber content. I eat lots of high fiber foods which really help to curb my appetite and like to keep track of my daily intake. Thanks --JR

JR,

I've been wandering the same thing.. I'm sure there's a site like that, but I haven't come across any so far. If you find one, let me know! :)

What?

Every food calculation at THIS website gives fiber data (because it's important for both health and weight loss).

Please read the VERY brief homepage, and thanks for posting!

You got there just ahead of me, Peter.   I was trying to avoid any chance of a fibre-rage tantrum!   Ah well.... too slow!

Het LovableDeb,
I figured it out. Any food calculation you enter will give you the fiber count, as well as calories, fat, etc. So easy a caveman could do it!
