Hello all,
My name is Kris, I am 34 and obese. I have known that my weight was getting out of control for quit some time now but I never did anything to stop it. Now it has come around and kicked me in the butt. I have 2 kids 1 is 9 months and the other 28 months. They keep my busy when I am not work and I really enjoy the time I spend with them but I get so tired and can't play as long as I would like with them. So I am bound and detirmed to lose weight.

I am 6'6" tall and weight 365 pounds. I have a big frame so I have set my weight lose goal to 115 pounds. I have decided to try low cal diet and excerise. But I am confused about BMR. I went to thelegacywebsite.com and figured out my BMR there. It says that my BMR is 3079 and my RMR is 2711. Does this mean I can eat 3079 cals a day and would maintain my current weight? So If I were to go on 2000 cal diet I would be offsetting the calories and would then start losing weight? also could some one help me understand Nutrition facts on food.

My example is a regular DP

Calories 150
%Daily Value*
Total fat 0g
Sodium 55mg
Total Carb. 40g
Sugars 40g
Protein 0g

150 Calories does not seem that much to me if I on a 2000 cal. diet. I read that you should take fats and carbs and multiple it by 4 and sugars I should multiple by 8 and add that to the calories to get an acurrate count, is this correct? So in my example above this DP would actually be 630 calories, again is this correct?

I hope this isnt to long I am just not very articulate and have a habit of confussing matters.

I'm rushed at the moment but will try to answer a couple of your questions.

Please read the FAQ (link below) on BMR and RMR. It will explain why you will likely do better just using RMR.

Yes -- though it's a rough estimate -- you can eat your RMR every day and you will maintain your current weight. But the first R is for resting, and if you are active you will burn more calories and lose weight.

So to lose weight you can either eat less, exercise more, or a combination of the two.

There is also a FAQ that explains how many calories there are in a gram of protein, fat and carbs. Carbs and fats are NOT both 4... fats are 9!

So if you ate 4 grams of fat that would be 36 calories (9x4=36) but you don't need to bother with this. Just look at the label or my food calculator and see how many calories you are eating.

Look at what the food is made of... protein, fat, carbs, for the health aspects of it.

I suggest you start your journey by reading all the FAQ, then maybe a good book.

Remember, you've spent your lifetime getting to where you are. Don't expect to be able to change it too quickly or you will get discouraged!

Hope that helps a little,
