| I'd fallen off the wagon a little bit and decided to get back on but it seems like the scale is lagging. I eat 1500 cals a day and workout daily burning off about 200 calories. I feel like I'm getting smaller and my clothes fit much better. Why does the scale lag??? When am I going to see the numbers change? Does anyone know how long it takes a normal scale to catch up to your actual wieght loss? Is it a few days or a week? I"m 5'6 and 147 trying to reach 140.

The working out that you are doing could be adding muscle which would mean that even if you are losing fat you might not be losing weight. The exercise also might mean you are drinking more fluids which would also be reflected on the scales.
Try not to stress about the precise number you weigh. If you are getting smaller and fitter the number is really not important at all. You could use body measurements as a guide instead, and you could track your improving fitness. Those things will give you a better idea of how you are going.
You might even find that what you want (ie the size, fitness level, and look you want) might come at a higher weight than the target you have in mind.

| Keep in mind that at 147 you are pretty close to your goal and in my expeirence the closer you are to your goal the harder it is to lose pounds. At a higher weight it may have only taken you a week to lose a pound but now it could be three weeks before the scale moves. Don't be discouraged, this is a good thing, it means you're almost at goal!

| I agree with the other posters. Don't be discouraged. The exact same thing happened to me. I was eating right and exercising every day. I usually burned off 400 calories/day but I wasn't loosing weight. After a few weeks, I finally began to see the results on the scale.. So just keep at it! You're probably toning up, which is fabulous!

| thanks guys, I've decided to put the scale away for a month and just keep pushing on. Checking the numbers everyday is too stressful and could cause me to stress out and start overeating. Hopefully I'll see results in a few months. I'm thinking my clothes are fitting better and I am shrinking, do I really need the scale to tell me that I'm losing weight?

| I think that is a really good idea, when I weigh myself everyday or even too often I get really depressed. Keep up the good work your on the right track.

id suggest taking your scales and putting them where they belong ... away !! :)
stressing out over numbers just causes stress , which raises cortisol and other hormone levels
you are probably gaining muscle as was mentioned above ..which is a great thing !
i also found when i was kinda at a plateau .. that once i changed EVERYTHING how i worked out .. cardio and weight training
the weight started melting off again
our bodies have memory and respond better to a change now and again
if yer jogging .. try cycling .. if your doing lots of reps all muscle groups .. just concentrate on one group per day and push to failure
change things up a bit an see if ;you start getting results :)
