I am 5 ft 3 and weigh 118.5 today. I feel comfortable when I am toned more & weigh about 111 pounds. Now, I currently eat about 1200 calories a day. My question is how much exercise do I need to do to create a calorie deficit, and should I be eating more or less? I am confused completely! I have been stuck between 116-118 pounds for 5 years now & I am frustrated. The only way I can drop weight is if I basically cut my calories down to 600 a day which I know is not healthy! Any advice or clarification is appreciated!

Hi a-g...
When you wrote 'toned' did you just mean thinner? Or were you a regular worker-out when you were those 7 pounds lighter?
You don't mention what kind of exercise you have in mind, but I'd suggest you incorporate weights in there somehow, as that will supply the toning and any extra muscle will burn more fat.
I'd have to say that, since you're only eating about 10 calories per pound of body weight, it shouldn't take much exercise to provide a deficit - or perhaps you've put your body into 'stabilize' mode over the years.
As I've often written here, I used to exercise myself into the ground. But I never got the shape or the results I wanted until I started to eat not just the right calories but also the right foods, with the correct % of fats, protein and carbs for me.
It takes a little customisation to learn what suits you, but a good startpoint for most people I've seen succeed has been 55 to 60% carbs, 20 to 25% fat and 25 to 30% protein. (Just make sure that your chosen combination adds up to 100%!)
I'm not suggesting that you're likely to gain any toned muscle on 1200 calories a day, but a combination of resistance and cardio tends to work better than cardio alone.
Good luck with those 7 stubborn pounds!
