Many years ago a friend of mine wanted to get out of the rat race of city life and a corporate career and moved to the country where he bought a small feed and seed store. Its customers were the people in this rural area who kept horses and chickens and other farm animals. The little store also had a small outdoor nursery, and served as the community post office. He loved it, and quickly built a strong business based on return customers.
But after a few years his business became so successful that it took all his time. It grew so much that if he kept it he would have needed to hire additional help to work in the store, as well as an accountant to keep track of things. It all became too much, and he sold his business to get back to a life he could enjoy.
I tell this story because it's a perfect parallel to what has happened to me with the website. I thought it would be fun to make an accurate calories burned calculator for people to use on the web, but it developed from there just as my friend's business did.
After a few years it began to take too much time to be fun. I had to give up my Red Cross work, which I had enjoyed so much since 9/11. And on trips to visit my kids I found myself working on their PCs all the time.
Over the years I got a lot of offers to sell my website, but I loved it too much to part with it. Finally I got to the point my friend reached where I couldn't manage things myself even if I wanted to. August 8th I sold my website to XYZ. You'll see their logo at the bottom of the page.
Some of the offers were from people who simply wanted to buy a popular site with tens of thousands of visitors a day, and they would have re-created the website from scratch. Not my website!
XYZ bought my site because they admire it for its no-nonsense approach to diet and weight loss, as well as its straightforward presentation. They plan to further develop the site by adding to it, but have no plans to remove any of the content. And that includes these forums.
I am very excited that I will once again have time for my personal life. But I am even more excited about the future of the website. XYZ will have the resources to develop it further, and I am hopeful that all my hard work will continue to help people well into the future.
Thank you to all of you who have made suggestions to help the website grow, and to all of you who have helped make these forums such a great place to share our experiences with others.
Sincerely,
Peter Christensen
