I am a 28 year old female who, in the last 7 years, has gained over 100 lbs. From being married to childbirth to work, I have lost control of my life and my weight. I went from a healthy weight of 156 lbs to a whopping 256 lbs and I am only 5' 8".
I am doing aqua aerobics at my own pace, but with 2 buldging degenerating discs and recently discovered I now have arthritis in the damaged area. I NEED to lose the weight, there is no question. However, I tend to get discouraged when I am in pain.
Is there anything I can do to continue my weight loss efforts even when I am in pain and unable to go to aqua aerobics?

I am right there with you. I also have arthiritis in my back and I know how difficult it is to move, walk, etc. Let alone exercise. But you should see your doctor about getting you on some type of medication. Celebrex works wonders!! But it's a pain with the insurance companies. It's a catch 22 cause a lot of pain would go away with the weight loss, but can't lose the weight until you exercise.
Being from Imperial, the aqua aerobics are probably wonderful for you due to the temperature. I'm from the Inland Empire........

There are differing viewpoints on the necessity of exercise for weight loss. In fact a number of members of this forum consider it to be necessary. But it just doesn't seem logical to me.
If one had to exercise to lose weight, that would mean that anyone confined to a bed or who otherwise couldn't exercise would get fat.
Exercise in very benefical to many aspects of our physical and mental health. And for many who just can't seem to lose weight, adding exercise to their lives just might turn the tide for them.
But every moment you are burning calories just to be alive, so it just seems logical to me that you can control weight by controlling your food intake.
A number of books suggest that very heavy people not try to exercise until they have lost some of their weight. So certainly their authors agree with my viewpoint.
My point is not to discourage exercise, but to encourage those who can't or are greatly limited not to give up and except their weight.

| Imperial is okay, but hot .... real hot right now...any relief from the heat is worth its weight in gold.
