Ok so, as I posted in my diary, I am the pickiest eater on earth! I don't LIKE man vegetables or fruits (lettuce, carrots, apples, bananas) and have a hard time forcing myself to try/eat things that are new, or that I don't think I'll like. I gag.
So what do I eat???
ACK!!! (I eat all of these!)

You don't like any fruits or veggies????
My idea of veggies used to be potatoes (fried, french fried, baked with lots of butter and sour cream) corn, squash and peas. Notice they are all high carb, starchy veggies and the fried ones full of fat or the others served with butter. That's why I used to weigh almost 250 lbs. I didn't eat healthy things, plain and simple as that. My blood pressure was getting higher, I had high cholesterol, high triglycerides and I was OBESE
So, my question for you is this......DO YOU WANT TO LEARN TO EAT HEALTHY AND LOSE EXCESS WEIGHT IN THE PROCESS?
Or do you say you want to lose weight, but really don't want to give up eating junk food and fatty foods for most meals?
No one is going to tell you that you can continue to eat the junk and be healthy and lose weight.....just not going to happen.
However, you can learn to like fruits and veggies, but you have to be willing to try. I think it was in Dr. Joel Fuhrman's book "Eat to Live" where I read that if you eat a certain food (that you didn't like) for 5-6 days in a row, your body will acquire the taste and you can learn to like it. I do believe that! You read my list of veggies in the first paragraph....now I eat very little of those veggies. But, I devour carrots, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, peppers of any color (not the "hot" ones though ), jicama, many kinds of lettuce, cabbage and cole slaw mixes (sans the fatty dressings), and the list goes on . In fact, when I sit down to a meal, I almost always eat my veggies and fruit before I eat the meat and bread!
Start with any healthy fruits and veggies that you do like and build on that. Maybe some you can learn to like raw and some cooked?? Maybe a little low fat or fat free butter/margarine type spread on them? Start with small amounts and work your way up. Your body needs the nutrients in them to stay healthy, and the phytonutrients are amazing for healing/preventing disease. Good luck trying! Let us know how it goes.
It can be done......it depends on how badly you want it. By the way, I'm down about 90 lbs.

Oh no, I don't expect to be able to eat that junk and lose the weight I want, I just don't know how to go about it...
I was picky as a child and my parents didn't "make" me try new things or eat things that I said I didn't like.
I'm going to try to incorporate some things...I think I can do raw peppers. I can do lettuce, carrots and celery. I may be able to do grapes. 5 days huh? I'll give it a go...let ya know what happens....
Thanks!

I used to cover my raisin bran with sugar, and that was the packaged raisin bran that had sugar all over the raisins. Now that would make me gag.
Now I "make" my own raisin bran with plain bran flakes and raisins, and the raisins taste so sweet to me now that I don't need or want any sugar. It just takes time.
Baby steps!

Presumably, there must be vegetables that you haven't yet tried? Sample them and see whether there are any you do like.
As mentioned above, it's really a question of adjustment. Back when I overindulged and ate badly, I could never imagine eating healthily for most of the time. Once you get into a routine, the 'old' tastes and cravings do fade.
Like Peter suggested - baby steps. It's likely that, if you make abrupt and radical changes to your eating, you won't stick with it, so gradual is good...

Well if "healthy" food is out of the question, just limit your portion sizes of what you do eat. I mix and match. I snack on peaches, pears, etc.. and eat less of the good stuff when I eat my "Daily Meals". I rarely go back for seconds and I don't put as much on my plate as I used to.
I've also started snacking on fat free jello. Only 10 calories per serving and tastes pretty good to me :)

I am not the type to force my beliefs on others but this is just some food for thought...

By limiting your food choices to meat and dairy based products your missing out on so many essentail nutrients...health food is not supposed to taste bad- think about it this way there is good tasting junk food and really gross tasting junk food. So it seems to reason that health food has bad and good varieties. You need to branch out try looking up some healthy recipies, go to PETA.com and get a vegetarian starter guide- no you dont have to give up meat but it'll have alot of recipe ideas that are healthier alternatives to what you are currently eating; go to local trader joe's, whole foods, or organic store and simply ask what is the most mainstream foods you can try. Even national grocery stores carry tasty halthy food like soy milk, veggie burgers, whoole wheat bread and ect....you can have your normal burger @ 500+ cals or a healthier version for 200cals. If you just did this and walked 10min a day you would already loose a lb a week.
good luck

I've always been a very picky eater, too. It's a lot easier to find a cookie or some fast food I like than to experiment with healthier foods, but that's what got me to where I am now (almost 300 pounds, down from 310). I have gradually changed the way I eat, and I still only eat foods I LIKE.
The key for me was to identify what it was I really liked and then find healthier alternatives. I love a good burger at times, so I still have them pretty regularly (about once a week, sometimes twice). I just use a light bun, turkey burgers instead of beef, reduced-fat cheese, romaine lettuce, and some light condiments (either fat-free mayo and honey mustard or some light Miracle Whip, etc.). Is it the "perfect" healthy burger? No, but I know it is a VAST improvement over what I used to eat (giant 1/2-3/4 pound greasy burgers from chain restaurants like TGI Friday's or Fuddrucker's).
I have recently discovered spaghetti squash. I use it in place of spaghetti, and it has WAY fewer calories. I make a good, hearty sauce (with turkey sausage instead of ground beef or meatballs, no-salt-added tomato sauce, no-salt-added tomato paste, and petite-cut diced tomatoes and seasonings) and have LOTS of the sauce on the squash, and I can barely tell that it's not real pasta. I even sometimes puree some frozen chopped spinach in my Magic Bullet and add that to the sauce--can't taste it at all, and it gives me the added nutrients of the spinach while also helping to thicken the sauce. It's a meal of almost all veggies (I know tomatoes are technically a fruit, but anyway...), and it's soooooo yummy and filling!
It did take me some time to find these healthier alternatives. When I first strted trying to lose weight, I was just counting calories. I was eating things like spaghetti o's, macaroni and cheese, microwave pizzas, ramen noodles, etc. Sure, it tasted great, and I did actually lose weight for a while because I was reducing my calories by keeping track of them in a food journal and watching portion sizes, but then my sodium intake was through the roof, and it wasn't long before my blood pressure spiked (and I'm only 24!). No sense in losing weight if I'm going to die of a heart attack from all the sodium
I bet if you give us an idea of what kinds of things you like to eat regularly, we could help to come up with some healthier alternatives that are still fabulously yummy.

OK, you have come to the right person!!! TRUST ME...PICKIEST EATER EVER!!!!
I don't eat many fruits or veggies, don't eat any meat/poultry...I used to live on pizza, peanut butter (no jelly) sandwiches, macaroni and cheese and pasta (plain, no sauce), and I still do!
But by using this site, I was able to learn about portion control and go from a size 10 to a 2 in 5 months.
I can give you some quick easy hints for stuff I ate and still eat...I have kept the weight off for almost a year and have no problem "cheating" on that junk once in a while.
When I get to the end of the day, I am usually looking for cookies or ice cream because I have 400-500 calories left to spare!
Two things I learned...I am very strict about not eating after 8pm EVER... and don't deny yourself what you like...just eat it in moderation....I had a small piece of chocolate almost every day when I was dieting...
Search for other posts I have made and you can see some of the yummy food I still eat!
I wish you the best of luck, and if you want specifics, I would be more than happy to give them to you!
