Hi.

I started my exercise plan 2 weeks ago at home. I have been using the Treadmill for 40 minutes a day, recently increased that to 1 hour a day. It's on an easy setting so I can keep up the pace. Over the 2 week period I have dropped from 171 lbs to 164 lbs. I am satisfied with my workout. Is that good enough in your opinion? and would I be able to continue using it?

The worrying part is I don't feel I am eating enough. I wouldn't say I am a good cook and cannot afford to pay for a great deal as I'm still in education. Aged 19 by the way and was 12 stone 3 at only 5 ft 5 as a male.

As I don't have a great deal of options I usually have Weetabix with Semi Skimmed Milk or Oatmeal with Semi Skimmed Milk or Special K for breakfast, then I will have one piece of fruit usually a Banana as a snack later on or some grapes before lunch. This is where I find it awkward. I do my exercise for 1 hour and then tie my lunch in around that. Usually something small like a Turkey sandwich or Chicken Soup or something with eggs. Then at Dinner I have something like Chicken Risotto or Spaghetti Bolognese or Chilli or something else.

So what I'm asking is that enough food in a day? Or am I unhealthily losing weight? At first when I had a small snack after exercise and also had a lunch I felt sick. I don't feel really hungry at night without a meal as I think I'm beginning to get used to the changes.

I am drinking around about 6-7 pints of water a day.

Hi

1) losing 7lb in 2 weeks is a rapid rate (obviously) but that initial drop is probably non-representative water-weight. But if your weight loss from this point going forward was more than 2lb a week than I would want to slow it down (but I don't think you will have that problem).

2) As far as cheap calories go, pretty much the cheapest I've seen is oatmeal (75p for a kilo at ASDA or ALDI - that is about 3500 calories or about 22p for 1000 calories)

3) I think that your liquid intake is a bit excessive so watch out. For example I think you should be concerned when consuming more than a litre (about 1.5 pints) an hour. I think some marathon runners have died through a combination of excessive drinking of water and (obviously) loss of sodium related to running a marathon.

4) even if you do not plan to make it a habit, I would encourage you to count the calories you are eating in one day to satisfy yourself that it is an appropriate amount. What is an appropriate minimum? Maybe 1200, maybe 1500 - though not much point discussing this unless you're willing to have a go at counting

5) one day you might want to add some resistance/weight training to your routine, it changes the shape of your body the way walking/jogging/running cannot

( By the way your stats are similar to my starting point. I am 5'5". I was 165lb (11 st 11 lb) and now 119lb (8 st 7 lb). )
