Hello All,

New poster here, been a lurker and find this forum an inspiration!

I am trying to eat very healthy, and also loose weight at the same time (I guess we all are...)

I have recently started cooking fish, and while I certainly do not mind it just plain, or with a bit of lemon, I hear that some fish benifit from a marinade, such as swordfish.  I cooked it the other night and used a marinade which was mostly made up of lemon juice, zest, a bit of water, salt, pepper, and after tasting it, I felt it needed olive oil to mellow it out. While olive oil is probably healthy in moderation, it does add calories.  This is my question:

How much of the marinade does the fish/meat/chicken absorb

should I be worried about the calorie count on that?

is there anything else I can use in place of oil to mellow the flavor, or maybe it doesnt matter if the marinade is so strong you cant stand it...  does it mellow while cooking?

Thanks for your help!

Add a bit of olive oil. If it's works without it, it will work with just a little bit. Your best bet is actually coconut oil, health-wise, if you're worried about it.

You could try cod fish. It's pretty mellow and takes on whatever flavor you want it to be. I have used it to make allot of things.

I would think that you are saving enough calories by eating the fish that you could spare some for the marinade.

I do also have a good marinade recipe for salmon. If you interested, I will post it.

I also think that the more you eat it "fish" the more you get use to it. I didn't eat it for years cause no one else in the family liked it. It took me awhile to aquire a taste for it again. Took me along time to like salmon. Now it's one of my favorites....lol
