Hello,

Although I have successfully lost weight twice in my life, I'm having a hard time losing weight this time. The first time when i was a young adult, the second when I found myself stuck in a bad marriage.

There is two things that I see that are holding me back:
- The first was one and half year ago when I found myself unemployed with no food, and I mean no food at all. My brother had to help me, not need to say it was a scary place to be.
- The second is that I stopped smoking 7 months ago. I was a one pack a day smoker and 7 months later I still miss it. I stopped for obvious reasons. Which also mean more money to buy food now...

I go on food RAMPAGES where I eat everything I can eat, healthy and unhealthy food. Today I had 3 icecreams (110 calories each, granted, but it's 330 calories!), I had greenbeans, salmons, fruits, yogurt, etc etc... Although I usually eat healthy, I eat way too much!

A few weeks ago I realized how FAT I had become (5.7, I went from 150 or so, to 196).

So now I want to lose weight and I don't know where to begin. I'd like to enjoy my hard work (becoming a non smoker) and have a healthy and good looking body, the one I had when I smoked..

Even though I'm going to keep browsing through the forums, any help/tip is appreciated.

Thanks

I know how you feel.... I gained 20lbs when I quit the smokes...but I will never start again. I think my biggest problem was that I let it happen to begin with. I should of never let my good eating habits go. But, I really wanted to focus on quitting.

So, the only advise I have is to get back into a good diet. Watch what types of foods you are eating and exercise. Eventually, things will fall into place. At least that is what I am hoping for... :)

Good luck and congrats on kicking that bad habit...

Oh yea, I wanted to tell you also that you will quit thinking about them. It just takes time. I have good weeks and bad weeks..... but I don't think about it 24/7 like I did when I first quit...so stick with it. I am at a year and half quit. :)

I hate to do this...but if you go to this web site it might help you with the smoking thing. It helped me allot when I quit.

Something that I have found that really works is eating a low glycemic index diet with 5-6 meals a day. Low Glycemic Index foods keep your blood sugar at a steady level so that you aren't getting those sugar highs and then crazy, wanting to eat more. I've being eating like these for 3 weeks now and it's helped so much in my binging frenzy. Just google it and find meals that work for you. Good Luck! Remember Nutrition is 80% of weight loss.

Thank you both.

I will google "glycemic index diet". As for smoking, if I still really miss it at times, I feel it's becoming the excuse now.
