I tried these last weekend and thought this was one of the better homemade veggie burger recipes I've tried. You kinda need a food processor (or blender) though. Might work with just a vigorous electric mixer??
10 oz mushrooms (any kind or a mixture), cleaned
1 1/4 cups canned black beans, rinsed and drained
1/4 cup chopped green chiles
3 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp onion powder
3/4 cup breadcrumbs
1 egg
- In a food processor, chop mushrooms into extra fine pieces. Add beans, chiles, Worcestershire, chili powder, salt, onion powder, breadcrumbs and egg; process until fully combined.
- Liberally coat a large nonstick pan with cooking spray. Form 4 patties, then gently place onto pan. Grill over medium heat 5 minutes per side, or until a crisp crust forms and the burger is heated through.
My food processor is really small, so I just chopped up the mushrooms first and then pureed the black beans separately. Then added those two things to a bowl along with the rest of the ingredients and mixed really well. It turned out fine!

What do you put on your veggie burger for condiments? Do you use condiments and a bun or just eat as is?

You generally eat a veggie burger just like you'd eat any beef or turkey burger. Condiments sometimes depend on the recipe you use for the burger. For example, one recipe that I use tastes excellent with pickles and a touch of catsup, but another one I use tastes much better with BBQ sause. Or I suppose they both taste pretty awsome with no condiments at all.
By the way, I am totally trying this recipe soon as I can get my parents to buy the ingredients.

It really depends on what the veggie burger is made out of. If its a turkey burger then I eat like a hamburger. Ketchup, mustard and whatever.
If its something with rice and beans, then I mash it up and eat it in a tortilla
If it the mushroom thing like on here. I think I would eat that on a bun
I make tuna patty things sometimes, I eat those plain and dip them in ketchup.
So, be creative, play around and find something that you like.
